The annual Woman Like Me L&B Conference is taking place this June, Saturday the 26th. This years theme is Rising From The Ashes and our speakers will share stories from the heart about how they have risen from the ashes. I have taken up my interest again in poetry /writing which has prompted me to want to put a collection of poems together as it represents my journey at different times through my life, especially overcoming challenges.
I have faced my biggest challenge over the past 5 years after being diagnosed with tremulous dystonia/focal hand dystonia which did bring me to my lowest ever point, however with support I did manage to balance my life back to coping on a daily basis and started to focus on what I could do not what I used to do which helped me through a time I call ‘floating back to the surface’ I was no longer drowning in the emotional and physical chaos.
My background has included working for a disability charity, post 16 education/ delivering training and employment, National Careers Service Adviser (Luton Rights) and working in prisons as a careers adviser.
I am currently learning the ukulele and the harmonica which is fun and a challenge I enjoy.
