‘And Still I Rise’ is the famous poem by Maya Angelou. Have you read it? It’s a reminder that no matter what we’ve gone through, we can still rise. We’ve read it at one, or two, of our previous conferences. For me and many others, the pandemic hasn’t been the only challenge that brought us low, and left us wanting to rise. And I still felt a sense of rising within me, and for us women, so knew it was a part of this year’s, 2022, theme. A part of it but not all of it, as this year we are to shine. Yep, that’s right Rise and Shine.
Then I thought, it’s the Queen’s platinum jubilee. Although, I’m certainly not a royalist, I still think it worth commemorating because it reminds me of the queen within me. And there we have the theme for The Women Like Me L&B Conference 2022… Rise & Shine Queen.
It’ll be our 4th year of hosting this conference, a testimony within itself. And so there’s been much learning. The biggest learning has been that less really can be more. So we have less speakers and more time to absorb what they share and what we can learn from them with facilitated Q&As, mini-workshops, activities and networking. I’ve been wanting to host the event outside of Luton so this year the venue this year is King’s House Bedford Conference Centre. We want to engage more with you and for the day to be even more engaging for you. My mission has been to make this ‘the day that makes a difference’ for those that want it to be, like I did back in 2018. So you can expect the same great stuff; great speakers, great collection of women and really great food. Like last year there will be a raffle and the event will be hybrid so you can join us in-person if you’re near Bedford or are up for travelling. If you’re not, however, then you can join us virtually. We’ve also made sure the ticket prices are accessible at different price points like we always do.
