Empower Yourself Through Self-Awareness (Part II)

Self-awareness can be extremely empowering! In the first part of this blog series, we teased out what self-awareness is and why it’s important. In this article, you’ll find out how to become more self-aware.

Tips For Building Self-Awareness

When feeling an intense emotion ask yourself questions such as:

How am I feeling right now?

Why am I feeling this way?

Do I want to continue feeling this way?

If not, what do I want to feel in place of this? Or what do I want to think in place of this?

This will allow you to not only observe your emotions but also change any negative thought patterns.

Spend Time With Yourself Every Single Day

One valuable tool is journaling. Setting aside time to release your thoughts onto paper regularly, allows you to ultimately learn who you are.

By writing out our thoughts, we can look at them by zooming out. When we take a step back, we get a better view of what’s really going on.

We can observe our thought patterns and confront your feelings in a safe space. It’s an opportunity to dive into yourself and a great tool for self-reflection!

Journaling provides you with a space to be completely honest with yourself. Write down how you truly feel about your experiences.

You might not like something that you might find about yourself. But being honest and self-aware will serve you in the long run.

Regardless of whether you journal or not, it’s vital to spend time with yourself to really dive in.

Personality Assessments

In order to get to know yourself better, taking personality assessment quizzes such as the Myers-Briggs personality test can give us valuable insights into ourselves.

External Feedback

It can be a good idea to ask our friends and our loved ones what they think of our attitude, traits and our strengths. This outside perspective can help us see aspects of our self that we might have been oblivious too.

Try Out New Things & New Experiences

Make an effort to step out of your comfort zone. Explore how you think, feel and behave in situations that aren’t familiar to you. You might end up learning something about yourself that you didn’t know existed.

These tips are a great starting point to embark on your journey of getting to know yourself better.
